  • Sainsbury's Superstore is found in a convenient position on King Street Lane, a 2.21 mile driving distance north-west of the centre of Wokingham, in Winnersh ( by Winnersh Farm Primary School and The Forest School ). This supermarket serves people from the locales of Lower Earley, Sindlesham, Wokingham, Barkham, Winnersh and Emmbrook.

The supermarket chain dispatched an assorted box of Green & Black's chocolate bars as an unsolicited free gift to a number of registered customers.

But the stunt backfired as a number of packages dropped through letter boxes were intercepted by dogs.

Chocolate can cause canines to suffer from theobromine poisoning, which can be fatal.

Dan Dugdale, from Wetherby in Yorkshire, told Sky News his miniature dachshunds Susie and Humphrey 'went crazy' for the treat, suffered diarrhoea and had to be taken to an emergency vet.

He said: 'Within five minutes it was ripped to bits, from what I could tell there were five bars of chocolate.

'It is the cocoa that's harmful to dogs and I believe there's quite a high content in Green & Black's so it's exactly the kind of thing you want to avoid.

'It was a cardboard package and the chocolate had a slip wrapped around it - it didn't take much to get into.'

The 27-year-old designer added: 'We took them to the vet and he said to keep an eye on them and see if it gets any worse.

'In a way it was lucky we have two dogs as they shared the chocolate, if it was just one on its own it would have been quite bad.

'Sainsbury's have a duty of care if they post something through the postbox - it wasn't even addressed to us, it was supposed to be for the person who used to live here.'

Another dog owner, who wished to remain anonymous, told Sky News her greyhound had to be induced to vomit and was placed on a drip at a veterinary clinic.

She said: 'We found him hiding under the sofa curled up, he was clearly not feeling well. I was furious, they were clearly lacking in common sense to send chocolate through the post.

'He was kept overnight and will have to go to his normal vet for more treatment.

'We've been left with a £420 bill so far and he still needs to have his catheter removed.'

The owner added that she had contacted Sainsbury's six times to warn them of the danger to dogs, but received no reply.

'It was a very stressful evening taking him to the vet,' she said.

'He should make a recovery but it is the toxicity that is the issue - with a smaller dog it might have been enough to be a really serious situation.' Beatles revolver rar.

Dr Huw Stacey, vet and director of clinical services at Vets4Pets, warned dogs are 'incredibly sensitive' to chocolate as it contains caffeine and theobromine.

He said: 'My real worry with this situation is the combination of dark chocolate and the fact it is coming through the post, means people could be unaware it is there and a dog could get at it well before the owner is aware, perhaps even hours. Autocad architecture 2019 product key.

'This could lead to a potential emergency incident, and I'd urge any owner who suspects their dog has eaten chocolate, to speak, and be prepared to take them straight to, their vet for a check over.'

A Sainsbury's spokesperson told Sky News: 'We're extremely sorry for the distress this has caused.
