SSH stands for secure shell, where the term shell is Unix-speak for a command prompt, the place where most Unix-style system administration functions are performed, whether manually by a logged-in. We have several Administrators (user type Administrator, sorry for confusion, in Sophos Cloud this users are SuperAdmins) in our Sophos XG version SFOS 17.1.3 MR-3. We tried in many way to connect by ssh protocol to our Sophos firewall. Only success for us was to connect as admin with password that was set-up when Sophos FW was installed.

Today, I’d like to share a short Networking video that covers the basics of setting up wireless networking on a W model XG Series appliance with integrated wireless access point.

Enabling SSH with Bitvise SSH Server. It is possible to add SSH access to a Windows server. All you need to do is install a SSH server on the Windows machine. There are a few free SSH Server options for Windows, but the best one I could find is from Bitvise. They have both a free and a commercial license, with a 30 day trial on the commercial.

You can see the status of your wireless access points in the Network Security Control Center. If you have an appliance with built-in wireless, the access point will be configured with default settings after the initial setup.

In this video, we’ll show you how to:

• Change the default SSID and passphrase
• Choose the encryption type and whether you want wireless devices to see each other
• Add other wireless networks, for example guest access
• Change the broadcast band and channel
• Configure a DHCP server so wireless devices get an IP address after connecting to the access point
• Set the zone of your access point interface
